Tokyo Bay Shiomi Prince → Shibuya

The hotel is about a 1-minute walk from Shiomi Station. Shibuya PARCO, the Pokémon Center, Hachikō and the Crossing are all walkable from Shibuya Station. The Starbucks Roastery has a separate day and route on 18 October.

Shiomi → Starbucks Reserve Roastery → Nakameguro & Daikanyama

Allow about 50–65 minutes from the hotel to the Roastery, including the long transfer walk at Tokyo Station and the walk from Naka-meguro Station. Times below are journey estimates; check live departures on the day.

Shiomi → Meiji Jingu → Harajuku

Travel to Harajuku takes around 40–50 minutes, including the Keiyo-to-Yamanote transfer at Tokyo Station. Meiji Jingu, Takeshita Street, mipig and Kiddy Land are all in the Harajuku area and can be done on foot.

Choose one option for the day. The two trips are in different directions and should not be combined. Check live routes and opening times before setting out.

   Akihabara → AsakusaWalk to Akihabara Station and take the Tsukuba Express to Asakusa (not the Ginza/Toei Asakusa Station). Visit Sensō-ji and Nakamise. If everyone still has energy, continue toward Tokyo Skytree; it is optional.

   Asakusa / Skytree → ShiomiUse Google Maps for the best live route back. A straightforward option is Tokyo Skytree/Oshiage to Tokyo by rail, then JR Keiyo Line to Shiomi. From Asakusa, the Tobu Skytree Line to Tokyo Skytree is about 5 minutes; walking across the river is another option.
4. Option B · outbound
   Shiomi → YomiurilandTake the JR Keiyo Line to Tokyo, transfer to the JR Chuo Line for Shinjuku, then follow signs to the Keio Line and ride to Keio-Yomiuri-Land. From there take the Sky Shuttle gondola to the park (or check the bus); allow about 75–100 minutes each way.
5. Option B · return
   Yomiuriland → ShiomiUse the gondola/bus to Keio-Yomiuri-Land, Keio Line to Shinjuku, JR Chuo Line to Tokyo, then Keiyo Line to Shiomi. Confirm the gondola and park operating hours so you leave enough time for the return.

Important for the go-karts: Yomiuriland’s park-track rides have height and age requirements; check the specific attraction rules before travelling. The illuminated Jewellumination season begins after your Tokyo stay, so the night-time scene in the reel will not be running on 20 October.

Travel day · 21 October

Tokyo → Odakyu Shinjuku → Hakone-Yumoto → Yoshiike

Your reserved Romancecar goes directly from Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto. If you do Ginza or Tsukiji in the morning, leave central Tokyo by about 11:00 and allow 30–45 minutes to reach the Odakyu area of Shinjuku. Aim to be there by 11:45 to find the platform and board calmly.

Fare reminder: the Romancecar email covers the reserved seats and limited-express supplement. You still need the basic fare for all four travellers: tap in with the adults’ IC cards and Henry’s adult-fare card; use Annabelle’s child-fare card or buy her a child ticket. The base fare is separate from the Romancecar reservation.

Full Hakone day · 22 October

Hakone loop: mountain train, cable car, ropeway & lake boat

The loop is a linked set of local transport services, not one single train. From Yoshiike, start at Hakone-Yumoto and travel uphill to Gora, cross the mountain to Lake Ashi, then take a bus back to Yumoto. Allow most of the day; transport is frequent, but waits, queues and the weather can change the timing.

   Walk from Yoshiike to Hakone-Yumoto StationIt is about a 7-minute walk. Go to the Hakone Tozan Railway platforms and board a Gora-bound mountain train. Use your IC cards or the pass described below.

   Hakone Tozan Railway: Yumoto → GoraThis is a small mountain railway running on tracks up steep hillsides. It takes about 40 minutes and uses three switchbacks, where the train changes direction to climb the slope. It is a regular railway, not the cable car. For the Open-Air Museum, get off one stop before Gora at Chokoku-no-Mori; the museum is next to the station. That stop adds time, so treat it as optional on the full loop.

   Hakone Tozan Cable Car: Gora → SounzanAt Gora, follow the signs from the railway platform to the cable-car platform. This is a steep funicular, with cars pulled up and down rails by a cable; the ride takes about 10 minutes.

   Hakone Ropeway: Sounzan → OwakudaniChange inside Sounzan Station to the aerial gondola. The ropeway carries you over the volcanic valley; get off at Owakudani to see the steam vents and try the famous black eggs if the facilities are open.

   Ropeway: Owakudani → TogendaiReboard the gondola toward Togendai. On a clear day, look for Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji from the cabin. Views depend on cloud and visibility; ropeway service can pause in strong wind or bad weather.

   Hakone Sightseeing Cruise: Togendai → Motohakone-koFollow the signs from Togendai Station down to the port and take a boat across Lake Ashi. The cruise takes roughly 25–40 minutes. Choose Motohakone-ko for the Hakone Shrine area; Hakonemachi-ko is the other port and has the checkpoint and old Tokaido road sights.
7. After the cruise
   Optional Hakone Shrine and lakeside toriiFrom Motohakone-ko, the shrine is about a 10-minute walk. The lakeside torii photo queue can be long, so skip it if the wait is eating into your return buffer.

   Bus from Motohakone-ko back to Hakone-YumotoUse a Hakone Tozan bus toward Yumoto / Odawara; check the destination board and live departure display at the stop. Depending on the service, allow about 35–45 minutes. Buses can be delayed by autumn traffic, so leave a generous buffer and keep the afternoon open for the ryokan.
9. Afternoon
   Return to Yoshiike for the garden and private onsenWalk about 7 minutes from Yumoto Station. Keep the evening for your ryokan, private bath and included dinner.

What the names mean: Tozan Railway = mountain train (Yumoto–Gora); Tozan Cable Car = rail funicular (Gora–Sounzan); Ropeway = aerial gondola (Sounzan–Owakudani–Togendai); Sightseeing Cruise = boat across Lake Ashi (Togendai–Hakonemachi/Motohakone). They are four separate services with short transfers between them.

Pass idea: a 2-day Hakone Freepass starting 22 October may suit the loop and your 23 October Yumoto–Odawara train. The official Odawara-start price currently lists ¥6,000 per adult and ¥1,500 per child; for your three adults and one child that is ¥19,500. It covers the Tozan train, cable car, ropeway, sightseeing cruise and designated buses, but not the Romancecar limited-express supplement. Check the current price and coverage before buying.

Travel day · 23 October

Yoshiike → Hakone-Yumoto → Odawara → Kyoto

Odawara is Hakone’s gateway to the Tokaido Shinkansen. You do not travel from the ryokan directly: first take the local train from Hakone-Yumoto to Odawara, then change to a westbound Shinkansen for Kyoto.

Confirmed Shinkansen reservation: ¥43,040 paid via Smart EX. Your seats are together in two adjacent rows on the two-seat side; E seats are the window seats. The Kodama leg passes the Mount Fuji area. Boarding method: scan the QR ticket or collect tickets before boarding. If you want to board by tapping IC cards, use “Designate IC Card” and assign an IC card to each traveller’s seat.

Hakone local train: no seat reservation is needed for the Hakone-Yumoto–Odawara ordinary train. Just turn up and board the next Odawara-bound service. Services run regularly through the day; check the station board that morning.

Kyoto day route · Saturday 24 October

A relaxed south-to-central Kyoto day built around your confirmed teamLab entry window of 11:00–11:30. Start with breakfast near the hotel, travel to the museum, then head north to Nishiki before finishing around Gion and the river. Use IC cards for Keihan and subway trips; the walking portions are easy to split with café stops.

Minn Gion → Kinkaku-ji → Ryōan-ji → Nijō Castle → Shinpuhkan → Minn Gion

A north-to-central Kyoto day with two very different Zen temples, lunch in the Ryōan-ji grounds, then the former shogun’s castle in central Kyoto. The times are a workable outline; buses can run slowly in traffic, so keep the castle visit protected before its last admission.

   Kinkaku-ji · the Golden PavilionA Zen Buddhist temple famous for its gold-leaf-covered pavilion reflected in Kyōko-chi pond. It began as shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu’s villa and became a temple after his death. Visitors follow a one-way garden path and view the pavilion from outside; expect some steps. Open 09:00–17:00.

   Kinkaku-ji → Ryōan-jiTake Bus 59 from Kinkakuji-michi to Ryoanji-mae, or walk 20–25 minutes along Kinukake-no-Michi. Ryōan-ji is another Zen temple, known for its austere dry garden: 15 stones sit in raked gravel, with one hidden from view at any single vantage point. The temple does not prescribe one meaning. Leave time for the larger pond garden too.

Allow 1–1.5 hours; check that your ticket includes Ninomaru Palace.

Your ticket is for a one-way ride from Torokko Arashiyama to Torokko Kameoka. From JR Saga-Arashiyama, allow about 20 minutes to walk to Torokko Arashiyama; this is a different station from Torokko Saga.

Hotel transfer · 29 October

Minn Gion → Sanjo → Yodoyabashi → Namba → &Here Osaka Namba

No advance train booking is needed for this city-to-city transfer. The Keihan train and Osaka Metro are regular services; allow about 60–75 minutes door to door, plus time for checkout and handling luggage.
